Recent news from Huisi

Minda called this evening with an update on the flooding. It quit raining today, Tues. Oct 18th, so the water is receding. Unfortunately the bridge to Aguilares (the closest major commercial town) is partially washed away so the people can’t get to Aguilares for shopping or to go north to Chalentengo, etc. This is especially upsetting because 3 students from Huisi study that direction. I suspect it will take some time to fix the bridge.

Meanwhile the village does not have water. The water pump was down by the river and of course it flooded. Minda said that the municipality of San Pablo Tacachico brought the displaced people water in plastic bags but no one has water for cooking!!! I tried to ask her several times what we can do to help but I didn’t get an answer before we got cut off. I will keep you posted as I receive updates.

Watch for pictures soon.
